Update: Details Of Sunday's Shooting Arrest
Domestic argument Sunday on West Ave 133rd leads to a Code Red alert that results in one arrest on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
Police released a booking photo Tuesday of Anthony Barrett, the 32-year-old San Leandro resident who was arrested Sunday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a domestic dispute on the 2400 block of West Ave 133rd.
Authorities also provided additional details about the incident that began at 11:38 am when police received a report of gunshots being fired. Officers dispatched to the scene blocked off the long avenue between Aurora and Doolittle Drives. Police also issued a Code Red telephone alert to neighbors, seeking help in apprehending the suspect.
According to police reports Barrett had shown up to support his brother who was involved in argument with his live-in girlfriend and her brothers.
In the course of the argument, police say Barrett took out .357 Magnum. A struggle ensued over the weapon, which went off without hitting anyone. The victims wrestled the weapon away from Barrett who fled the area on foot, police said.
Officers searched for Barrett using a K-9 unit and helicopter. Several hours after the incident began a neighbor who had heard the Code Red description reported seeing Barrett get into a white Honda Civic.
A patrol officer spotted the suspect vehicle near Fairway Drive and Doolittle Drive, stopped the car and found Barrett lying down in the back trying to conceal himself. He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.
