Drake's Brewing Helps Raise $3,000 for San Leandro Schools
At last week's First Friday fundraiser, patrons donated $3,077 to the San Leandro Education Foundation. A portion of beer sales from the Drake's Brewery event also will go to SLED.
Last Friday was bustling at Drake's Brewing Co., where hundreds of people came out to support both local craft beer and a local education nonprofit.
The brewery holds tastings the first Friday of each month to benefit local schools and nonprofits. This time around the organization of choice was the San Leandro Education Foundation, which raised $3,077 through donations at the door.
SLED raises money for academic and enrichment programs and student support services in San Leandro public schools.
First Friday tastings cost $15 for a Drake's glass and tokens for three full pours of beer. Additional tokens may be purchased separately, with net proceeds going to the chosen nonprofit.
Local officials were on hand to tend bar at the Aug. 5 fundraiser. Councilman Jim Prola, his wife, school board trustee Diana Prola and Councilman Michael Gregory all helped keep glasses full.

"like" sure was a great time. Next month I believe the event is benefitting the San Leandro Scholarship Foundation. We are very blessed to have a "Drake's" in town. Helping improve the community, one beer at a time. Thanks Drake's, and thank you San Leandro Education Foundation for raising these funds to help fund enrichment programs at our San Leandro schools. SLED and DRAKE'S ROCK!
