Cops Bust 'Grow House' On Carillo Ave.

Find 82 plants, six guns, some 'ecstacy' and more than $40,000 in contraband.

Two men have been arrested after a month-long investigation led police to a marijuana "grow house" where they found 82 mature plants, six guns and other contraband that was together worth in excess of $40,000.

The bust occurred Tuesday afternoon on the 3400 block of Carillo Ave. Arrested and charged with weapons violations and possession of drugs for sale were 26-year-old Van Nguyen of San Leandro and 21-year-old Khoa Tran of Alameda.

Police seized 82 pot plants standing over 5-feet tall with an estimated yield of 8-10 pounds of marijuana and a street values of about $30,000.

Detectives also found 2 pounds of marijuana packaged for sale and 7 grams of the powder form of MDMA, which is used to make " ecstasy" pills.

Four semi-automatic handguns, two assault rifles and $10,000 in cash were also seized.

“These individuals were heavily armed with high powered weapons and involved in illegal drug sales," police department spokesman Lt. Jeff Tudor said in a statement.

Tudor said the department's vice and narcotics unit collected the evidence that allowed police to obtain the search warrant that led to the arrests and seizures.

Three other people were arrested inside the residence in connection with the case but police did not release their names as they were not subjects of the investigation.
