She has been Superintendent for the last three years.

Cathey earned her Master’s degree from St. Mary's College and her Bachelor’s degree from California State University, San Jose.

SLUSD Board President Diana Prola praised Cathey’s accomplishments, including:

  • directing the construction of the Arts Education Center, the Career Technical Center, and renovations at every school in the City.
  • presiding over the passage of Measure M, a school facilities bond to upgrade athletic and playground facilities;
  • working to pass Measure L, a school funding parcel tax.
  • pushing for a Community Health Center for students.

“The Superintendent works tirelessly, and is highly respected by staff, community members and the Board of Education,” Prola said. "She has created a legacy of educational upgrade, and she will be greatly missed.”

The Board of Education will discuss creation of an ad-hoc committee to address the hiring of a new Superintendent at its next meeting.
