San Leandro police announce arrest of Paul Arthur Stevenson III, a 20-year-old Oakland man, who they say is one of two gunmen who shot up an SUV with 7 people inside, killing three and wounding three others.

San Leandro police have arrested a 20-year-old Oakland man they believe was one of two who opened fire on an SUV, killing three people and wounding three others after a party at a warehouse earlier this month.

At a Thursday afternoon press conference, San Leandro Police Department spokesman Sgt. Ted Henderson said Paul Arthur Stevenson III was taken into custody Thursday morning at his residence on the 1900 block of 21st Avenue in Oakland.

The shootings occurred at about 1:20 a.m. of Oct. 2 when on a green SUV parked outside a warehouse at 2661 Alvarado St.

Killed in the shooting were 16-year-old student , 19-year-old Shanice Kiel and 23-year-old Joshua Alford.

Three other people were wounded.

Thursday Henderson revealed for the first time that a seventh person had been in the SUV but had escaped out the back, uninjured.

The warehouse was the scene of a tattoo party.

Police have estimated that more than 100 people, mostly in their late teens or early 20s, had attended the party, which was promoted on social media sites.

The party had ended by the time the shooting happened around 1:20 a.m., but there was still a large group of people in the parking lot, police said.

Henderson said Thursday that the party itself had unfolded without incident and that it wasn't clear whether the shooters were at the event or arrived afterwards.

"We don't have any reason at this point for why this shooting occurred," Henderson said.

Henderson said police do not know enough to say whether the incident was gang-related. Police have not revealed any information about the weapons used other than to say that two different guns were fired.

Stevenson has not yet been charged. Henderson said police will recommend that he be indicted for three counts of murder and at least four counts of attempted murder.

The City of San Leandro has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.

Henderson did not say whether the reward factored into Stevenson's arrest which, he said, came from "several tips from various sources within the community."
