Seven Award Nominations for CCT Production

California Conservatory Theatre of San Leandro’s September, 2010 production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has received seven nominations from the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle for outstanding achievement in Bay Area theatre in 2010. The seven nominations were made under the category of “Musicals, theatres with 99 seats or less” and include:
- Ensemble
- Musical Director, Michael Moran
- Director, Marilyn Langbehn
- Performance, male, Michael Cabanlit
- Performance, male, Nickolas Quintell
- Performance, female, Jade Shojaee
- Entire Production
The San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle, comprised of 28 members representing print and electronic media, annually gives awards for excellence in three categories: Theatres with (1) 99 seats or less; (2) 100 – 300 seats; and (3) over 300 seats. The members vote on 36 drama awards and 38 musical awards from over 400 + nominations. In 2010 Circle critics reviewed over 400 productions from San Jose to Santa Rosa and San Francisco to Concord.
Winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony on April 4, 2011, at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre Lobby, 3301 Lyon Street, San Francisco. The award ceremony is sponsored by Actors’ Equity Association, representing over 1000 actors and stage managers in the Bay Area. California Conservatory Theatre of San Leandro is a member of the Actors’ Equity Association. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee was the opening production in CCT’s 2010 – 2011 season. It was followed by Doubt in November and Almost, Maine in February. The next production, the funny drama Same Time, Next Year opens April 1st and the final production in the five play season, the fantastic farce The Unvarnished Truth opens on June 3rd.
